Dear Farmers,
Welcome back to our farm journal series. Over the past three weeks, we’ve seen significant progress as we moved through Weeks 6, 7, and 8 of our farming season. Here’s a comprehensive update on our journey:

Seeding Completion
Everyone has successfully finished seeding, even if it meant floating on some canola or barley. It’s been a labor-intensive few weeks, but the satisfaction of having all seeds in the ground is worth the effort.
Weather and Field Conditions
The weather has been a mixed bag with scattered showers. The Tofield/Ryley area has received ample moisture and doesn’t need any more rain for now. In contrast, cereal crops south of Daysland are starting to get thirsty as it has been a few weeks since we’ve had a general rain. The consistent winds, although annoying, have helped dry out some of the wetter areas.
Herbicide Season
Herbicide season is now in full swing. Last week, peas were sprayed, and this week marks the beginning of herbicide applications for cereal crops. Canola is also being tended to, with the first pass either completed or happening soon. We’re planning a single pass next week and a second pass the week after before the canola fills in.
Cold Temperatures and Crop Health
This week, we experienced some very cold temperatures over a couple of nights. While most areas showed minimal damage, some fields in the Rosalind/Heisler area exhibited symptoms of cold stress. We will need to follow up to assess the extent of the damage.
Long Days and Progress
The past weeks have demanded long days and late nights, but our dedication is paying off. The year is shaping up to be promising, with crops progressing nicely despite the challenges.
As we continue through the season, let’s keep up the hard work and remain optimistic about the harvest ahead. Your efforts and perseverance are truly commendable.

If there’s anything specific you’d like discussed in these updates, please feel free to DM or message me. Your feedback and suggestions are always welcome.
Warm regards,
Jesse Erickson
